Brea, CA - (July 14, 2025) - Perfect weather made for great racing at Round 7 of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross season at the Spring Creek MX track in Millville, Minnesota. That same perfect weather indirectly impacted the track, which was prepared in anticipation of rain that never arrived on the day before the event. As a result, the track had a decidedly harder packed base at this year’s running of the Spring Creek National.
Race Highlights:
- Twisted Tea Suzuki Presented by Progressive Insurance
- 450 Class
- Colt Nichols battled well inside the points during both motos at Millville.
- Benoit Paturel delivered an impressive charge through the pack in the opening moto.
Colt Nichols (45) charged to two strong starts and moto results aboard his Twisted Tea Suzuki RM-Z450.
Colt Nichols (45) turned an average qualifying performance into outstanding track speed when points were on the line. When the gate dropped for the opening 450 Class moto, Nichols launched into a top-20 position. From there, Nichols put on a mid-race surge that saw him gain three spots. He kept his strong pace to nab another position shortly before the checkered flag flew. Nichols continued his momentum into the final moto of the day where he used another top-20 start to launch his assault on the field. Nichols made his passes early and held strong to the finish to earn Championship points in both motos.
“Millville was better for me,” said Nichols. “I was able to finish two motos and stay off the ground, so that was an improvement from the past few weeks. I’m looking forward to Washougal.”
Benoit Paturel (102) continues to impress with incredible speed on tracks that are brand new to the US-series rookie.
Benoit Paturel (102) managed to find top-level speed in the opening qualifying session. Paturel put that strong pace to good use in moto one; he started outside of the points then put his head down. The Suzuki rider picked off seven positions throughout the 30-minute plus two lap race. Early in the second moto Paturel got shuffled back, but once the chaos settled, he started a steady climb through the pack. Unfortunately, Paturel ran into trouble shortly before the moto’s midpoint and was forced to retire from the race and a points-paying position.
“I had a good first moto, finishing in 16th place,” stated Paturel. “The second moto was not so good, but I finished 18th overall. I’m going to take away the positives and move onto the next round.”
“Colt Nichols had a solid day today after a couple tough weeks. He went 15-15 for 14th overall,” said Dave Dye, Lead Engine Technician for the Twisted Tea/H.E.P. Motorsports/Suzuki presented by Progressive Insurance team. “Benoit Paturel went 16-35 for 18th overall; Benoit had a rough second moto. We’ll do more testing this week and then it’s onto Round 8 in Washougal, Washington.”
Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen, a two-time champion of the AMA Pro Motocross series, was on-hand at the event. The broadcast took a moment to interview Roczen on-air about the progress of his ankle surgery recovery and his future race plans in 2025.
“I was thinking about coming back at Unadilla, but I haven’t even been on a bike yet; I’m going to start riding a turn track next week,” stated Roczen. “Those races, Ironman and Unadilla, they are coming up pretty quick. So, I don’t know if I’ll quite make it to one of the Outdoors, but I’m definitely game for Charlotte [the first SMX World Championship Playoff].”
The series travels next to the Pacific Northwest for the Washougal National on Saturday, August 19th. The Suzuki riders and team members are excited for the challenges of the rolling Washington track and look forward to posting more strong results and earning more Championship points.
